Do you thrive on a challenge and want to make a difference? Look no further!

We are seeking an Engineering Lead/Manager to join our Hawke's Bay team. This is a rare opportunity for a Chartered Civil Engineer (or someone close to becoming one) with proven leadership experience who can lead a high-performing team to deliver successful engineering projects.

With six offices throughout the Central North Island and nearly 85 years in business, Cheal is a firmly established multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Laser Scanning, Precision Monitoring, and Resource Management Planning - the whole package! We offer interesting and diverse projects, a secure pipeline of work, a supportive work environment that prioritises employee well-being and a commitment to professional development and growth opportunities.

This key role sits on the Napier Management team with other highly skilled professionals. You can expect a competitive remuneration package with additional benefits for Discipline Leads, as well as relocation assistance.

We acknowledge and appreciate the work and time our employees put into their work and are proud of our team culture and workplace ethics.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineering New Zealand (or close to becoming)
  • 6+ years' experience within the New Zealand Civil Engineering infrastructure environment, including earthworks, roading, sewerage, water supply, and stormwater projects in both residential and commercial fields
  • Exceptional Client and Project management skills
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and leading a team
  • Proven experience in job procurement and pricing
  • A desire to grow and develop people and business
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A highly proactive work ethic and the desire to exceed client expectations

 What we offer:

  • Career development opportunities including annual training budgets, payment of professional membership fees and generous policy for gaining CPEng.
  • Commitment to well-being, including flexible working environments and a range of wellness initiatives
  • Competitive remuneration
  • Long service reward system
  • Employee recognition programs
  • Relocation assistance
  • We are big enough to have exciting projects but small enough to feel like a family company. Our people are our biggest asset, and we love to see them excel.

We provide a highly supportive team culture, a strong focus on continuing professional development and a diverse team of professionals that is welcoming to all. If you're interested in becoming part of it, we would love to hear from you.

Cheal is an equal opportunities employer and committed to health and safety in the workplace. Applicants will be New Zealand or equivalent (recognised by NZQA) qualified.  A full, clean driving licence is essential.

We will begin shortlisting as soon as applications are received, so don't delay, get your application in today! We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
